Η Μάχη της Κορωνησίας (ή Κυρονησίας)[1] ήταν πολεμική σύγκρουση της επανάστασης του 1821 με νικηφόρα έκβαση για τους Έλληνες.[2]

Η εξέλιξη των γεγονότων

Στις 5 Μαρτίου 1829 η Βόνιτσα ξαναγίνεται ελληνική. Αυτό κινητοποιεί ξανά τον, ευρισκόμενο στα Γιάννενα, Μεχμέτ Ρεσίτ Πασά Κιουταχή στρατηγό με τεράστιο κύρος πλεόν αρχιστράτηγο του Σουλτάνου. Εντολή του να πνίξει τη Ρούμελη στο αίμα τάχιστα για να αναλάβει μετά επικεφαλής των οθωμανικών στρατευμάτων στο ρωσοτουρκικό μέτωπο. Ο αρχιστράτηγος Τζώρτζ αναθέτει την ανάσχεση του Κιουταχή στην χιλίαρχία των Σουλιωτών υπό τον Αθανάσιο Κουτσονίκα με αντικειμενικό σκοπό να κλειστούν στο νησάκι Κορωνησία (σημερινή Κορωνησία νησάκι του Αμβρακικού στον κόλπο Σαλαώρας στην ευρύτερη περιοχή της Άρτας, έναντι της Πρέβεζας και της Βόνιτσας) στο πέρασμα των Οθωμανών και να εμποδίσουν τον Κιουταχή, που μέχρι τότε ήταν αήττητος να περάσει στη Ρούμελη.[3]. Επικεφαλής των τουρκικών στρατευμάτων είναι ο ίδιος ο Κιουταχής[4]. Όμως αποτυγχάνει. Στις 10 Μαρτίου 1829 υπογράφηκε το πρωτόκολλο του Λονδίνου.
