Damaskus (arabíska: دمشق Dimashq opinberlega, ash-Sham الشام í almennu tali) er höfuðborg Sýrlands og er talin elsta byggða borg heims. Núverandi íbúafjöldi er áætlaður um 2,5 milljónir. Borgin liggur í um 80 km frá strönd Miðjarðarhafsins, við ána Barada. Hún stendur á hásléttu, 690 metra yfir sjávarmáli.
