経歴

2016年にアマチュア・フリーエージェントでトロント・ブルージェイズと契約してプロ入り。

2017年は傘下のルーキー級ガルフ・コーストリーグ・ブルージェイズでプロデビュー。1試合に出場して3打数無安打だった。

2018年はアパラチアンリーグのルーキー級ブルーフィールド・ブルージェイズ（英語版）でプレーし、58試合に出場して打率.354、10本塁打、57打点、2盗塁を記録した。

2019年はA級ランシング・ラグナッツとA+級ダニーデン・ブルージェイズでプレーし、2球団合計で92試合に出場して打率.290、7本塁打、44打点、3盗塁を記録した。

2020年9月11日にメジャー契約を結んでアクティブ・ロースター入りし[1]、翌12日のニューヨーク・メッツ戦にて「8番・捕手」で先発出場してメジャーデビュー（この試合での結果は3打数1安打、1四球）[2]。 9月21日のニューヨーク・ヤンキース戦ではMLB初本塁打を含む1試合4安打を記録したが、これは21歳以下の捕手に限ると2004年のジョー・マウアー（当時ミネソタ・ツインズ所属）以来の快挙だった[3]。この年はMLBで9試合に出場して打率.375、1本塁打、3打点を記録した。

2021年は開幕をMLBで迎えた。4月30日のブレーブス戦でキャリア初となる1試合2本塁打を記録した[4]。

2022年は自身初めてオールスターゲームに選出された。オフにはシルバースラッガー賞を初受賞した。

2023年はシーズン開幕前の2月9日に第5回ワールド・ベースボール・クラシック（WBC）のメキシコ代表に初めて選出された。2月22日にパートナーの出産に立ち会うため、スプリングトレーニングを離脱した[5]。2月26日にはWBCも辞退した[6]。
