ירגזי סולטני (שם מדעי: Melanochlora sultanea) הוא מין יחיד בסוגו של ציפור שיר ממשפחת הירגזיים. אורכו 20–21 ס"מ ומסתו 35–49 גרם והוא הירגזי הגדול ביותר. הירגזי הסולטני מאוד ווקאלי, ומשמיע קריאות רבות ורמות, אשר לרוב נשמעות כצפצופים. בשבייה, הירגזי הסולטני מגיב בפאניקה לרעשים לא־רגילים ובמפגשים לא־צפויים עם מינים אחרים, תגובה לא אופיינית לירגזיים. הירגזי הסולטני חי בדרום-מזרח אסיה.

מאפיינים חיצוניים

הירגזי הסולטני הוא מין עוף קטן, אורכו 20–21 ס"מ ומסתו 35–49 גרם,[2] והוא הגדול מבני משפחתו. הירגזי הסולטני מזכיר בגודלו ובמראהו בולבול, ראשו גדול ועגול עם ציצה צהובה־בוהקת גדולה. אצל הזכר, הראש, החצי העליון של החזה, הגב, הכנפיים והזנב שחורים עם ברק כחול; הגחון צהוב בוהק. הנקבה דומה, אם כי ציצתה קצרה יותר, גבה וראשה בצבע שחור־ירוק־חום, כנפיה וזנבה שחורים, והחזה בצבע ירוק־זית צהבהב. פרטים צעירים דומים לבוגרים, אם כי דהויים יותר ובעלי ציצה קצרה. המקור שחור וקצר, העפעף אפור, כף הרגל אפורה־כחלחלה, וקשתית העין חומה כהה. הטפרים כהים. הזנב באורך 9.5 ס"מ; הכנף באורך 11 ס"מ; כף הרגל באורך 23.75 מ"מ; המקור באורך 18.75 מ"מ.[3][4][5] בניגוד לירגזיים אחרים, לירגזי הסולטני נחיריים גלויים ולא מכוסים בנוצות.[6] לתת המין Melanochlora sultanea gayeti ציצה שחורה.[7]

הירגזי הסולטני מאוד ווקאלי, ומשמיע קריאות רבות ורמות, אשר לרוב נשמעות כצפצופים.[8] השיר מורכב מהברות בקול צלול ורך שחוזרות על עצמן כ–3–7 פעמים, ומעורבות בקריאות צורמות וצפצופים.[4]

התנהגות

הירגזי מזוהה לרוב על בסיס הקריאות הרועשות שלו, אבל גם נצפה לעיתים כשהוא יושב על ענפים גבוהים וחשופים. הירגזי הסולטני נצפה לרוב בזוגות או בלהקות קטנות של 3–12 ציפורים, ולעיתים בלהקות מעורבות בעת חיפוש מזון. הירגזי מחפש מזון לרוב במרכז חופת העלים, ולעיתים גם בתחתיתה ובשיחים, במרחק דקמטרים ספורים מהקרקע. ניזון מחרקים ופירות.[4][5]

בשבייה, הירגזי הסולטני מגיב בפאניקה לרעשים לא־רגילים ובמפגשים לא־צפויים עם מינים אחרים, תגובה לא אופיינית לירגזיים.[7]

עונת הקינון מתחילה באפריל. הקן מוקם בחלל בעץ. הקן קטן ובנוי מטחב ועלים. הקן מרופד בשיער וסיבים צמחיים. הנקבה מטילה 5–7 ביצים לבנות עם נקודות ערמוניות. לא הרבה ידוע על הקינון של הירגזי הסולטני.[5]

בית גידול ותפוצה

הירגזי הסולטני חי מנפאל והאינאן להודו-סין. הירגזי חי בחופת העצים של יערות ירוקי־עד.[4] הוא לרוב חי באזורים נמוכים, מתחת ל–1,200 מטרים מעל פני הים, בעיקר לרגלי הרים. עם זאת, הוא נצפה לעיתים גם באזורים גבוהים יותר, עד ל–1,900 מטרים מעל פני הים. תת המין Melanochlora sultanea gayeti חי בווייטנאם ולאוס, לרוב מתחת ל–200 מטרים מעל פני הים.[5]

טווח התפוצה (כ–6,310,000 קמ"ר) של מין זה גדול מאוד, ולכן המין אינו מתקרב לסף סכנת הכחדה לפי קריטריון גודל הטווח. גודל האוכלוסייה לא כומת, אך לא סביר שהוא מתקרב לסף סכנת ההכחדה, ולכן המין לא מתקרב לסכנת הכחדה על פי קריטריון גודל האוכלוסייה. למרות העובדה שמגמת האוכלוסייה נמצאת בירידה, הירידה אינה מהירה מספיק כדי להתקרב לסף סכנת הכחדה לפי קריטריון מגמת האוכלוסייה. כתוצאה מכך, הירגזי הסולטני מסווג כמין ללא חשש.[9] האוכלוסיות המערביות נמצאות בסכנה עקב הרס בתי גידול.[5]

טקסונומיה

הירגזי הסולטני תואר לראשונה על ידי בריאן הוטון הודג'סון בשנת 1837.[10]

ב–1890, ריצ'רד באולדר שרפ החשיב את הירגזי הסולטני כמין במשפחת הטימליים.[11] הוא כיום מסווג בסוג עצמאי במשפחת הירגזיים.[10][12]
