Oscar de melhor design de produção
O Oscar de melhor design de produção reconhece as conquistas na direção de arte de um filme. O nome original da categoria era Melhor Direção de Arte, mas foi alterado para seu nome atual em 2012 para o 85.º Oscar.[1] Esta alteração resultou da renomeação da subdivisão de Diretor de Arte da Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Scientes (AMPAS) para a subdivisão de Designer. Desde 1947, o prêmio é compartilhado com o(s) decorador(es) de cenário. É premiado ao melhor design de interior em um filme.[2]
Em 1933 não houve entrega dos prêmios Oscar, que foram entregues duas vezes em 1930 (em abril, referente aos filmes produzidos entre 2 de agosto de 1928 e 31 de julho de 1929, e em novembro, referente aos filmes produzidos entre [1.º de agosto de 1929 e 31 de julho de 1930); em 1931 (em novembro, referente aos filmes produzidos entre 1.º de agosto de 1930 e 31 de julho de 1931); em 1932 (em novembro, referente aos filmes produzidos entre 1.º de agosto de 1931 e 31 de julho de 1932); e em 1934 (em março, referente aos filmes produzidos entre 1.º de agosto de 1932 e 31 de dezembro de 1933).
De 1941 a 1957, o Oscar de melhor direção de arte passou a ser entregue aos filmes em preto-e-branco e coloridos, separadamente. A partir de 1958, a categoria voltou a ser reunida num prêmio único. A partir de 1960, ela foi novamente dividida em duas, com prêmios separados para filmes coloridos e filmes em preto-e-branco. Finalmente, em 1968, os prêmios foram mais uma vez reunidos numa única categoria.
