Wikipedia en xaponés (en xaponés: ウィキペディア日本語版; Wikipedia Nihongo-ban) é a edición xaponesa de Wikipedia, unha enciclopedia libre e aberta. Esta edición é a oitava máis grande despois da Wikipedia en inglés, alemán, francés, polaco, italiano, español e ruso. Comezou en marzo de 2001, e esta versión da enciclopedia contén 1.441.951 artigos e 2.268.754 usuarios, dos cales 12.531 son activos.[1]

Historia

En marzo de 2001 creáronse tres novas Wikipedias: a alemán, a catalá, e a xaponesa. A páxina orixinal http://ja.wikipedia.com estaba escrita en rōmaji, posto que o software non permitía caracteres xaponeses.

O primeiro artigo foi "Nihongo Non Funimekusu" (aínda que era incorrecto, probablemente quería dicir onso taikei, fonoloxía) e estaba escrito en rōmaji.

O 1 de setembro de 2002, o software foi actualizado á "Fase III" e os artigos foron trasladados á nova versión. Foi neste punto no que se traduciu o software interface ao xaponés.

O 17 de decembro de 2009, a Wikipedia en xaponés é excedida pola Wikipedia en italiano con pouco máis de 639 000 artigos, o 22 de marzo de 2011 é superada pola Wikipedia en español con pouco máis de 740 000 artigos, o 21 de setembro de 2011 é superada pola Wikipedia en ruso con pouco máis de 769 000 artigos e o 21 de outubro pola Wikipedia en neerlandés con pouco máis de 773 000 artigos.

A Wikipedia en xaponés, é a Wikipedia con máis contribucións anónimas de entre as dez maiores Wikipedias.[2]
