Enciclopedia en liña

Unha enciclopedia en liña ou enciclopedia electrónica é un dos proxectos de enciclopedia almacenada nunha gran base de datos de información útil, accesible a través da World Wide Web. A idea de construír unha enciclopedia cun uso libre en Internet remóntase polo menos na proposta de 1993 Interpedia, que foi planeada como unha enciclopedia en Internet para que todo o mundo puidese contribuír con materiais. O proxecto non saíu da fase de planificación e foi alcanzado pola explosión da World Wide Web, a aparición dos motores de procura de alta calidade, e a conversión do material existente.

A diferenza dun software educativo, a páxina web recibe a base de datos mediante un navegador web onde o actualiza. A base de datos úsase mediante a dixitalización dunha información. No caso das vellas enciclopedias impresas, por exemplo, estas axudan a mellorar a lectura ou extraer o seu contido para ser citadas.
