The wreck of USS Harvest Moon , ca. 1963 American Civil War : The sidewheel gunboat , serving as the flagship of Rear Admiral John A. Dahlgren , sank with the loss of one life five minutes after striking a Confederate mine in the Swash Channel in Winyah Bay in South Carolina . Her survivors, including Dahlgren, were rescued by the gunboat USS Nipsic ( United States Navy ). After being stripped, her wreck was abandoned on 20 or 21 April.[ 2]
