De 62e editie van het Amerikaanse grandslamtoernooi, het US tenniskampioenschap 1942, werd gehouden tussen 27 augustus en 7 september 1942.[1] Voor de vrouwen was het de 56e editie. Alle wedstrijden vonden plaats op de West Side Tennis Club in Forest Hills, een wijk in het stadsdeel Queens in New York. Het was door de Tweede Wereldoorlog het enige grandslamtoernooi dat dat jaar gespeeld werd.
