Паходжанне назвы IAU: адно са старажытнагрэчаскіх сузор’яў, якія пералічыў Пталемей.

Нвйбольш яркія зоркі — Мірфак (α Персея) і Альголь (β Персея), 1,8 і 2,2-3,5 візуальнай зорнай велічыні; 90 зорак ярчэй 6-й зорнай велічыні.
