沖縄こどもの国（おきなわこどものくに）は、沖縄県沖縄市（敷地の一部は北中城村にまたがる）にあるこどもの国である。動物園を中心とした3つの施設があり、県内でも有数の教育普及施設である。

以前は、県内唯一の遊園地も併設されていたが、経営悪化のため1999年8月31日に閉館。その後、動物園なども改装工事のため一時閉館。2004年4月15日に財団法人沖縄こども未来ゾーン運営財団が、沖縄子ども未来ゾーンとしてリニューアルオープン。県内唯一のチルドレンズミュージアムである「ワンダーミュージアム」を併設する。

ホワイトライオンやアミメキリンなど人気の動物と共に、琉球列島独自の生態系の魅力に触れる「アークおきまる」では沖縄県の豊かな生態系について感じ学ぶことができる。

ワンダーミュージアムは建物館内にインハウス工房を有する地上1階、地下2階の施設。こどものアイディアを活用する参加型の企画が数多く実施され、他に類を見ないその取り組みは県内外から注目されている。

沖縄県の郷土の魅力を発信し、沖縄の未来をつくる人材を育てる教育普及施設として、広く愛される施設である。通称「こどもの国（英: Okinawa Zoo & Museum）」。

沿革

現在の公式サイトで『2020年5月5日開園50周年を迎える』となっていることから[1]、仮開園した1970年5月5日を開園の日としている模様。

なお、旧公式サイトでは1972年4月19日を開園の日としていた[2]。

施設案内

動物園

  • 県内で初めて設置された動物園としての伝統と規模を誇る。2003年3月時点では哺乳類、鳥類、爬虫類、魚類など全部で194種、1,377点（公式HPより）。
  • 乗り物コーナーにはメリーゴーランドやボート、ミニSL「テキサス号」などいくつかのアトラクションがある。

チルドレンズセンター

  • 沖縄こどもの国を支援するボランティアの活動拠点として設置された。1階にはレストランや沖縄県環境センターがある。
