Maailman alkuperästä on gnostilainen kirjoitus, joka tunnetaan Nag Hammadin kirjastosta kahdena kopiona (koodeksi II, kirja 5; koodeksi XIII, kirja 2).[1] Kirjoitus on gnostilaisen kosmologian esitys. Se ajoitetaan noin vuosiin 270–330.[2]

Kirjoituksen sisältö on sukua kirjoitukselle Hallitsijoiden olemus ja siinä on eräitä setiläisen gnostilaisuuden piirteitä, mutta sitä ei kuitenkaan lueta varsinaiseksi setiläiseksi kirjoitukseksi.[3] Kirjoituksen kirjoittaja pyrkii tekemään selkoa maailman alkuperästä ja osoittamaan, ettei kaaos ollut kaiken alku ja perimmäinen todellisuus, niin kuin monet kreikkalaisen mytologian kosmologiat esittävät.

Teksti on alun perin ollut kirjoitettu kreikaksi.[2] Nag Hammadin kirjastosta tunnetaan sen koptinkieliset käännökset.
