臺東車站位於臺東縣臺東市,為臺灣鐵路公司臺東線、南迴線的鐵路車站。
1970年代,臺東車站新站選址確定被指定在臺東市郊的岩灣地區,捨棄了另外兩個設立在台鐵康樂站或臺東縣議會現址的方案,如今成為諸多臺東縣民心中的遺憾。然而研究顯示,這樣的結果是起因於政治、人為因素而非專業及自然條件下的考量,根本原因乃臺東縣地方派系競合對地方建設的外負面影響所致。[2]
臺東舊站廢站後造成市區商圈迅速沒落,臺東新站又受制距離臺東市區太遠,加上人口於20世紀末期後大量外流,臺東新站周邊發展停滯。本站附近商圈依然發展有限,形成都市發展的特殊現象。 研究顯示,撇開臺東先天地理及資源上的劣勢,臺東長期以來的地方政治生態問題是導致臺東有限的資源被浪費,至今建設落後的原因[2],而臺東火車新站就是案例之一。[2]
本站為一等站,所有車種皆停靠[5]。為南迴線和東部幹線的主要始發站和終點站。設有旅遊服務中心,站前設有商業區,售有各類土產。
本站為平面車站,有島式月臺三座。
根據2023年資料,本站每日旅運量約為9,698[1],在台鐵各站中排行第34名。

There also founded indirect reasons for Taitung develop backward that are local factions competed each other from the Zero-sum Game, poor local develop resources was divvied by factions and factions intervened the policy.
