Pjērs de Kubertēns (franču: Pierre de Frédy, baron de Coubertin; 1863. gada 1. janvāris — 1937. gada 2. septembris) bija barons, Francijas sporta un sabiedriskais darbinieks, vēsturnieks, pedagogs, mūsdienu olimpisko spēļu organizēšanas iniciators. Starptautiskās Olimpiskās komitejas (SOK) prezidents (1896—1916, 1919—1925).

Biogrāfija

Dzimis Parīzē. Tēvs — barons Šarls Luī de Fredi (Charles Louis de Frédy), māte — baronese Marija Marsela Žigaula de Krisenū (Marie-Marcelle Gigault de Crisenoy). Bērnību pavadīja mātes īpašumos — senajā Merville pilī (château de Mirville), Normandijā, netālu no Havras. Daudz lasīja, klausījās mūziku. Pēc koledžas absolvēšanas studēja Lielbritānijā (apmeklēja ar savām sporta tradīcijām zināmo koledžu Ragbi) un ASV, līdz iestājās Sorbonnā, filozofijas fakultātē (1880). Aizrāvās ar teorijām par fiziskās attīstības lomu harmoniskas personības veidošanas procesā.

Studējot antīkās Grieķijas vēsturi un kultūru, Grieķijā apmeklēja Alteja ieleju 300 km no Atēnām, kur noritēja Antīkās olimpiskās spēles, un pakāpeniski nonāca pie domas, ka sportu nepieciešams atkal ieviest izglītības sistēmā, jo tieši sports senos hellēņus padarīja fiziski spēcīgus, perfektus un izturīgus. Arī pats aktīvi nodarbojās ar boksu, paukošanu, airēšanu, jāšanu.

Savus izglītības sistēmas reformācijas uzskatus viņš atspoguļoja divās grāmatās, kuras publicētas 1880. gadu beigās: "Audzināšana Anglijā" un "Anglijas audzināšana Francijā"

Olimpisko spēļu atjaunošana

1894. gada 23. jūnijā Parīzē, Sorbonnā saaicināja starptautisku kongresu, kurā nāca klajā ar ideju atjaunot antīkās Grieķijas olimpisko spēļu tradīciju kā no politikas absolūti nošķirtām starptautiskām sporta spēlēm, kurās galvenais ir sports, nevis valstu ambīcijas (ideja bija vairāk nekā aktuāla, jo Eiropas valstis gatavojās Pirmajam pasaules karam, kāpinot bruņošanos un politisko propagandu). Atsaucība bija necerēti plaša, un tūdaļ šajā pašā kongresā tika nodibināta Starptautiskā Olimpiskā komiteja, par kuras prezidentu ievēlēja grieķu komersantu Demetriosu (Dimitriosu) Vikelasu (Δημήτριος Βικέλας), bet de Kubertēnu — par tās ģenerālsekretāru (1896. gadā viņš kļuva par SOK prezidentu).

1916. gadā, gatavojoties uzvilkt mundieri un doties uz fronti, de Kubertēns nolika savas prezidenta pilnvaras SOK, jo uzskatīja, ka olimpiskie principi un līdzdalība politikā nav savienojami, un aicināja ievēlēt šajā amatā Žofruā de Blonē (Godefroy de Blonay) kā neitrālās Šveices pilsoni. 1919. gadā de Kubertēnu atkal ievēlēja par SOK prezidentu.

Pēc 1924. gada olimpiskajām spēlēm Pjērs de Kubertēns atstāja SOK prezidenta posteni, taču palika par goda prezidentu līdz mūža galam.

Mira 1937. gadā Šveicē, apglabāts Lozannā, bet viņa sirds apglabāta senajā Olimpijā.
