Alessandro Sala (Trieste, 5 aprile 1982) è un personaggio televisivo e bassista italiano, membro dei Rhapsody of Fire, divenuto noto in Italia al grande pubblico per la sua partecipazione alla prima edizione del reality show La pupa e il secchione.

Biografia

Comincia a suonare il basso a 11 anni, studiando un'ampia gamma di stili e generi e unendosi a diverse band nel corso degli anni.[1]

Nel 2006 prende parte alla prima edizione del programma televisivo La pupa e il secchione, in coppia con la pupa Rosy Dilettuso. I due vinsero il reality show aggiudicandosi il montepremi di 200000 €.[2]

Parallelamente alla passione per la musica, studia Fisica ottenendo nel 2004 una laurea triennale e nel 2008 una laurea magistrale presso l'Università degli Studi di Trieste, nel 2013 un dottorato presso l'Istituto Fritz Haber della società Max Planck a Berlino.[3] Successivamente collabora come postdoc prima presso la Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste e, a partire dal 2017, presso il laboratorio STRAS del CNR-IOM tramite l'università di Trieste, dove dal 2020 viene nominato ricercatore permanente.[4]

Il suo ritorno a Trieste dopo l'esperienza all'estero lo riavvicina a Roberto De Micheli, chitarrista dei Rhapsody of Fire, con il quale a partire dal 1998 suonava nella band progressive metal Sinestesia[5][6] e che, nel 2015, gli propone di entrare a far parte dei Rhapsody of Fire in sostituzione di Oliver Holzwarth, che aveva lasciato il gruppo l'anno precedente.[7] Sala ha descritto questa proposta come un'opportunità unica nella vita.[8] Nel gennaio del 2016 la band pubblica Into the Legend, il primo album con Sala al basso, e negli anni successivi Legendary Years (2017), The Eighth Mountain (2019) e Glory for Salvation (2021).

Nel 2020 entra a far parte di Saeko, progetto musicale della cantante Saeko Kitamae, con cui nel 2021 pubblica l'album Holy Are We Alone.[9]

Vita privata

Nel 2021 sposa Michela Grilli, cantante con cui condivide, oltre alla relazione sentimentale, l'esperienza artistica in progetti musicali quali Canto Libero, cover band di Lucio Battisti,[10] e Back to AMY, cover band di Amy Winehouse.[11]

Curiosità

Sala è socio del Mensa dal 2000,[12] ha un QI di 160 nella scala Wechsler[13], ha giocato a pallamano in serie B con la Pallamano Trieste[14][15] e ha inventato, nel dicembre 2002, ancora studente universitario, una versione per tre giocatori della dama.[16]

Per sua stessa ammissione, Sala vanta un numero di Erdős-Bacon pari a 11.[17]
