The first government of Hussein Arnous was formed on 30 August 2020 and took the oath of office on 2 September 2020. A new Council of Ministers was formed by Hussein Arnous at the appointment of PresidentBashar al-Assad.[2] This government was the 94th since Syria gained independence from the Ottoman Empire in 1918 and was the seventh during the presidency of President Bashar al-Assad.
The government came after the Syrian parliamentary elections in 2020, and the cabinet included twenty-nine ministers, including fifteen former ministers, and fourteen new ministers.[4]
One minister with another portfolio in previous government, Dr. Salwa Abdullah, was appointed Minister of Social Affairs and Labor.
The government has also witnessed the reappointment of Dr. Lubana Mushawah as Minister of Culture, who was Minister of Culture in the First Wael al-Halqi government.[5]
