Provinsi Mutsu

Provinsi Mutsu (陸奥国, mutsu no kuni) adalah provinsi lama Jepang yang sekarang menjadi prefektur Fukushima, Miyagi, Iwate, Aomori, dan mencakup kota Kazuno dan kota Kosaka yang terletak di prefektur Akita. Wilayah Mutsu sering dikenal sebagai Ōshū (奥州).

Ibu kota diperkirakan berada di lokasi yang sekarang menjadi prefektur Miyagi. Di zaman Sengoku, Mutsu terbagi menjadi beberapa wilayah kecil yang diperintah berbagai klan. Kota istana Wakamatsu yang terletak di bagian selatan provinsi Mutsu dikuasai klan Uesugi, Mutsu bagian utara dikuasai klan Nambu yang berkedudukan di Morioka, sedangkan Date Masamune berkedudukan di Sendai.

Di zaman Meiji, Mutsu dipecah menjadi 4 provinsi yang lebih kecil: Rikuchu, Rikuzen, Iwaki dan Iwashiro. Sebagian wilayah yang sekarang menjadi prefektur Aomori terus menjadi bagian provinsi Mutsu hingga penghapusan sistem han pada tahun 1871.
