Kotapinang adalah sebuah kecamatan sekaligus pusat pemerintahan atau ibu kota dari Kabupaten Labuhanbatu Selatan, di provinsi Sumatera Utara, Indonesia. Luas wilayah 340,55 km² dan memiliki jumlah penduduk 64.455 jiwa ditahun 2021 dan kepadatan penduduk 189 jiwa/km².[2] Jarak Kotapinang dengan Kota Medan, ibu kota provinsi Sumatera Utara, sekitar 345 km.

Demografi

Suku bangsa

Istana Yang Dipertuan di Kotapinang pada tahun 1931-1934

Berdasarkan data Badan Pusat Statistik Kabupaten Labuhanbatu Selatan, dua suku bangsa yang dominan di kecamatan ini ialah Batak dan Jawa. Adapaun besaran persentase penduduk kecamatan Kota Pinang menurut suku yakni suku Batak sebanyak 55,65% yang umumnya adalah Batak Angkola, Batak Toba dan Mandailing, kemudian Jawa 39,43%. Sebagian lagi adalah Melayu 0,65%, Minangkabau 0,59%, Aceh 0,15%, dan suku lain termasuk Nias, Tionghoa dan lainnya sebanyak 3,53%.[4]

Agama

Berdasarkan data Badan Pusat Statistik kabupaten Labuhanbatu Selatan 2020 mencatat mayoritas penduduk kecamatan Kota Pinang memeluk agama Islam yakni 86,13%, kemudian Kristen 13,18 % dimana Protestan 12,22% dan Katolik 0,96%. Selebihnya memeluk agama Budha 0,43% dan Hindu 0,26. Sementara untuk rumah ibadah, terdapat 66 Masjid, 52 Mushola, 26 Gereja, dan 2 Vihara.[2]
