İran'da depremler, 1990-2006, United States Geological Survey

İran dünyada sismik olarak çok aktif ülkelerden biridir, pek büyük fay hattı boydan boya geçer ki[1] bu ülkenin en az %90'ını kapsar.[2] Bu yüzden, İran'da sıklıkla yıkıcı depremler yaşanır.

Jeoloji ve tarih

İran platosu, aktif katlanma, kırılma ve volkanik püskürmeleri içeren çok tipteki tektonik aktivitelere konudur. İran pek çok fay hattına sahiptir ki bu da özellikle ülkenin başşehrinde yaşamayı tehlikeli yapar. Bu ayrıca onun uzun tarihinde feleket getiren deprem aktiviteleri ile bilinir. Bu depremler yalnız binlerce kişiyi öldürmedi aynı zamanda tabii kaynakların da israfına yol açtı.[3] 1900 yılından beri İran depremleri nedeniyle en az 126.000 kişi öldü.[3]
