Paraguay Nehri, Güney Amerika'da Brezilya, Bolivya, Paraguay ve Arjantin'den geçen bir nehirdir.

Tarihçe

Yukarı Paraguay Nehri'nin asıl sakinleri Guaraniler'di.

Paraguay Nehri, 16. yüzyılda Sebastian Cabot tarafından keşfedildi. Yüzlerce yıldır bu nehir, Paraguay'ın dış dünyaya ana yolu olarak hizmet etti.

O zamandan beri, nehir canlılığını ve önemini korudu.

Fauna

Brezilya, Bonito yakınlarındaki Paraguay Nehri havzasının bir parçası olan Rio da Prata'da altın bir dorado (ön planda) ve dört Brycon hilarii (arkada)

Paraguay Nehri ekolojik bölgesi, 80'den fazla endemik olmak üzere yaklaşık 350 balık türü ile büyük bir tür zenginliğine sahiptir.[1] Prochilodus lineatus ve Pseudoplatystoma corruscans dahil olmak üzere bunlardan birkaçı yumurtlamak için Paraguay Nehri'ne göç eder.[1] Nehirdeki birçok tür esas olarak Paraná Nehri Havzası kökenlidir, ancak faunanın aynı zamanda iki Amazon nehri olan Guaporé ve Mamoré ile de bir bağlantısı vardır. Paraguay, Guaporé ve Mamoré farklı yönlerde akar. Bunlar arasında paylaşılan türler arasında akvaryum endüstrisinde önemli bir balık olan siyah fantom tetra[2] ve balıkçılık endüstrisinde önemli olan altın dorado vardır.[3][4]
