సుధేష్ణ మహాభారతం ఇతిహాసంలోని నాలుగవ భాగము విరాట పర్వము ప్రథమాశ్వాసము లోని పాత్ర, విరాటరాజు భార్య. పాండవులు తమ అజ్ఞాతవాస సమయంలో ఒక సంవత్సరం విరాటుని రాజ్యంలో గడిపారు. ఈమె ఉత్తర కుమారుడు, ఉత్తర, శ్వేత, శంఖాలకు తల్లి. ఈమెకు కీచకుడు[1] అనే తమ్ముడు, సహతానికా అనే మరదలు ఉన్నారు.[2]

సుధేష్ణకు సంబంధించిన మూలం రాజ్యం గురించి మహాభారతంలో పేర్కొనబడలేదు. ఈమె తమ్ముడు కీచకుడు మత్స్యరాజ్య సైన్యాధిపతి. కాబట్టి బహుశా సుధేష్ణ మత్స్య మూలానికి చెందినది. ఆధునిక పరిభాషలో సుధేష్ణ అంటే మంచిగా పుట్టినది అర్థం.

మహాభారతంలో పాత్ర

పాండవుల అరణ్యవాస సమయంలో సుధేష్ణ తనకు తెలియకుండానే పాండవులు, ద్రౌపదిలకు తన రాజవాసంలో ఆతిథ్యమిస్తుంది. ద్రౌపది తన పనిమనిషి సైరంధ్రీగా ఉంటుంది. సుధేష్ణ ఒకరోజు తన గది కిటికీలోంచి చూస్తుండగా ద్రౌపది అంగడి (విపణి) నుండి వస్తుంటుంది. ఆమె అందం చూసి ఆశ్చర్యపోయిన సుధేష్ణ, ఆమె గురించి ఆరా తీస్తుంది. పాండవులు తమ రాజ్యాన్ని కోల్పోయిన తరువాత తన ఉద్యోగం పోయిందని ద్రౌపది చెబుతుంది. తన పనులతో ద్రౌపది నమ్మకమైన, సమర్థవంతమైన పనిమనిషిగా నిరూపించుకుంటుంది.[3]

కీచకుడు సైరంధ్రిని చూసి, ఆమె అందం చూసి ముచ్చటపడి సుధేష్ణ దగ్గర ఆమె గురించి ఆరా తీస్తాడు. కీచకుడు కోరికను సైరంధ్రికి సుధేష్ణ తెలియజేస్తుంది. కీచకుడిని సైరంధ్రి మందలించి, తాను ఇప్పటికే గంధర్వ వివాహం చేసుకుందని, ఆమెను తాకిన ఏ వ్యక్తిని అయినా తన భర్త చంపేస్తాడని చెప్తుంది. తన తమ్ముడిని తిరస్కరించలేక, సైన్యాధిపతిని అసంతృప్తి పరచవద్దని సుధేష్ణ కీచకుడికి సైరంధ్రిని పరిచయం చేస్తుంది. కీచకుడికి గదికి మధువు తీసుకుపోవాలని సైరంధ్రికి చెబుతుంది. సైరంధ్రి కీచకుడి గదికి రాగానే కీచకుడు ఆమెను వేధించడానికి ప్రయత్నిస్తాడు. సైరంధ్రి సహాయంకోసం సుధేష్ణ వైపు చూస్తుంది, కాని రాణి ఇదంతా చూస్తూ మౌనంగా ఉంటుంది.[4]

తరువాత, కీచకుడు మరణించినప్పుడు (వాస్తవానికి భీముడి చేత చంపబడతాడు), సుధేష్ణ భయపడి, సైరంధ్రి క్షమించమని వేడుకుంటుంది. తను చెప్పిన మాటలు నిజం కావడాన్ని చూసిన సుధేష్ణ, సైరంధ్రి సాధారణ మహిళ కాదని గుర్తిస్తుంది. సైరంధ్రి మాటలు నిజమయ్యాయని నమ్ముతూ, కీచకుడి మరణానికి సైరంధ్రి శిక్షించమని సుధేష్ణ తన భర్తకు సలహా ఇస్తుంది.[5]

సుసర్మ, త్రిగర్తాస్ మత్స్యరాజ్యంపై దాడి చేసినప్పుడు, సుధేష్ణ తన భర్తను, సైన్యాన్ని చూస్తుంది. తరువాత, కౌరవులు ఇతర దిశ నుండి దాడి చేసినప్పుడు, కొద్దిమంది సైనికులు మిగిలి ఉన్నారని తెలుసుకోని ఆమె నగర రక్షణను బాధ్యతను తీసుకుంటుంది. ఆమె కొడుకు ఉత్తర కుమారుడు కౌరవులను ఒంటరిగా ఓడిస్తానని గొప్పగా చెప్పుకుంటాడు, బయటకు వెళ్ళడానికి సిద్ధంగా ఉంటాడు. తన కొడుకు చంపబడతాడని తెలిసిన సుధేష్ణ తన కుమారుడితో మాట్లాడి, బృహన్నల (నిజానికి మారువేషంలో ఉన్న అర్జునుడిని) తన రథసారథిగా తీసుకోవాలని, అలా చేస్తే తనకు ఎటువంటి హాని జరగదని చెప్తుంది. తన రథాన్ని ఒక మహిళ చేతిలో పెట్టకూడదనుకుంటూ ఉత్తర కుమారుడు మాటను తిరస్కరిస్తాడు. అయితే, సైరంధ్రి చెప్పినట్లయితే అది నిజంగా జరుగుతుందని సుధేష్ణ వాదిస్తుంది. ఆ విధంగా, ఉత్తర కుమారుడు కౌరవులను ఎదుర్కొన్నప్పుడు, అర్జునుడు వాస్తవానికి వారందరినీ ఓడించి ఉత్తర కుమారుడు మరణించకుండా, మత్స్యరాజ్యం పోకుండా కాపాడాడు.[6][7]

అజ్ఞాతవాసం ముగిసిన తరువాత పాండవులు తమను తాము వెల్లదించుకుంటారు. ద్రౌపదిని తన పరిచారికగా అనేక బాధలు భరించిందని సుధేష్ణ భయపడుతుంది. ద్రౌపది, పాండవులు వారిని క్షమించి, తమకు ఆశ్రయం ఇచ్చినందుకు విరాటరాజు దంపతులకు కృతజ్ఞతలు తెలుపుతారు. ఉత్తర అర్జునుడి కుమారుడు అభిమన్యుని వివాహం చేసుకుంటుంది. పాండవులు వారి రాజ్యాన్ని తిరిగి పొందటానికి మద్దతు ఇస్తానని విరాటరాజు ప్రతిజ్ఞ చేశాడు. సుధేష్ణ పిల్లలు, సైన్యం కురుక్షేత్ర యుద్ధంలో పాండవులతో కలిసి పోరాడుతారు.

యుద్ధం తొలిరోజు ఉత్తర, ఆమె సోదరుడు ఇద్దరూ మరణిస్తారు. యుద్ధం ముగిసే సమయానికి, విరాటరాజు, సుధేష్ణ పిల్లలు, మత్స్య సైన్యం మొత్తం చనిపోతారు. సుధేష్ణ మనవడు పరిక్షిత్తు హస్తినాపూర్ యొక్క కొత్త వారసుడు అవుతాడు. తన మనవడిని రక్షించమని కృష్ణుడిని కోరుతుంది.[8]
