"Radio Brīvā Eiropa/Radio Brīvība" (angļu: Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL)) ir ASV valdības finansēta starptautiska raidorganizācija, kas izplata ziņas un analītiskus raidījumus Austrumeiropas, Centrālāzijas un Vidējo Austrumu valstīs. Izveidota Aukstā kara laika laikā 1950. gadā kā "Radio Brīvā Eiropa" raidīšanai uz Austrumu bloka valstīm Bulgāriju, Čehoslovākiju, Poliju, Rumāniju un Ungāriju. 1953. gadā tā sāka raidīt krieviski kā "Radio Brīvība", drīz vien arī adigejiešu, avāru, azeru, balkāru, čečenu, gruzīnu, ingušu, kazahu, kirgīzu, osetīnu, tadžiku, tatāru, turkmēņu un uzbeku valodās, no 1954. gada baltkrievu un ukraiņu valodās.

PSRS to uzskatīja par Rietumu "propagandas ieroci un ideoloģisku diversiju, kas grauj sociālistiskās sistēmas un padomju sabiedrības vienotību". Visā Padomju Savienības teritorijā bija izveidots īpašs radio traucētāju tīkls, kas apgrūtināja arī šīs radiostacijas klausīšanos.[3]

Raidījumi latviski

"Radio Brīvība" sāka regulārus raidījumus latviešu valodā 1975. gadā līdztekus raidstacijas "Amerikas Balss" raidījumiem, kas latviešu valodā notika jau kopš 1951. gada. Kopš 1984. gada raidstacija latviski raidīja ar nosaukumu "Radio Brīvā Eiropa". 2003. gada 31. decembrī Radio Brīvā Eiropa izbeidza savu darbību latviešu valodā.

Krievu valodas redakcijas pārcelšana uz Rīgu

Pēc Krievijas 2022. gada iebrukuma Ukrainā RL/RFE bija spiesta savu darbību Krievijā pārtraukt 12. martā, dienu pēc tam, kad Vladimirs Putins parakstīja likumu, kas paredz līdz 15 gadus ilgu cietumsodu par viltus ziņām, valsts bruņoto spēku diskreditāciju un aicinājumiem ieviest sankcijas pret Krieviju. Latvijas Ārlietu ministrija informēja, ka radiostacijas Krievijas redakcija turpmāk strādās Rīgā.[4]
