名古屋市港区中央部に位置する[2]。東は津金二丁目・金川町、西は本宮町、南は中川本町、北は新船町に接する[2]。

歴史

町名の由来

中川運河沿岸の地名は西岸に「船」の字を付ける命名規則に則っており、その字に金川町と対になる金の字をつけたものである[3]。
