新人王戦（しんじんおうせん）は、しんぶん赤旗（日本共産党中央委員会機関紙活動局）及び日本棋院・関西棋院主催の囲碁の棋戦で、予選開催年の8月1日時点で25歳以下、六段以下の棋士が参加する。1976年（昭和51年）創設。

出場棋士

  • 第1-第n期は、35歳以下の、初段から七段まで[1]。第1期-第2期は成績による選抜[1]。
    • 宮沢吾朗は、33歳の1983年(第8期)に準優勝、35歳の1985年(第10期)に優勝している。
  • 第n+1-第30期は30歳以下の五段以上七段以下は全員、30歳以下の四段以下は前年ランキング上位。
  • 第31期から32期は、25歳以下、七段以下。

第33期からは、25歳以下、六段以下。ただし優勝経験者は除く。

    • 2008年の第33期より、新人王経験者は「卒業」と称して以後の出場資格が無くなる、つまり本棋戦の優勝は生涯に1回しかできないと規定が変更された。
  • 本戦出場者は、日本棋院からシード17名、予選勝ち抜き者8名、関西棋院からシード4名、予選勝ち抜き者4名の計33名。
  • 2023年、第48期の上野愛咲美は女性棋士初の優勝者となった。

方式

  • トーナメント方式で争われ、決勝戦は3番勝負。
  • コミは第1-27期は5目半、28期より6目半。
  • 持時間は、第1-28期は各5時間、29-30期は各4時間、31期から各3時間。
