マキャヴェリズム

マキャヴェッリ

マキャヴェリズム（英: Machiavellianism、仏: Machiavélisme）とは、どんな手段や非道徳的な行為であっても、結果として国家の利益を増進させるのであれば許されるという考え方[1]。ルネサンス期の政治思想家ニッコロ・マキャヴェッリ及び彼の著書『君主論』の内容に由来する。転じて、単に目的のためには手段を選ばないやり方を指す場合もある[1]、権謀術数主義[1]。

マキャベリズムの支持者や行為者は、日本語ではマキャベリストと呼称する。英語でマキャヴェリアン (Machiavellian) と呼ぶ[2]。フランス語の古い用法ではマキャヴェリスト (Machiavéliste[3])。チェーザレ・ボルジアが代表的な人物[4]。
