ABA All-Star Game

L'ABA All-Star Game fu uno degli eventi più importanti all'interno delle stagioni ABA, che si disputava verso la fine di Gennaio di ogni anno.

Il primo ABA All-Star Game si tenne presso la Hinkle Fieldhouse di Indianapolis il 9 gennaio 1968, cambiando poi sede ogni anno: si svolsero All-Star Game in 7 città diverse comprese le due edizioni a Indianapolis e le due a Louisville.

L'Est vinse 5 volte contro le 3 dell'Ovest, mentre nell'ultima edizione i Denver Nuggets padroni di casa sconfissero la squadra composta dai migliori giocatori delle altre squadre ABA.

Si disputarono anche due NBA-ABA All-Star Game, ovvero match All-Star Game interlega fra giocatori NBA e giocatori ABA: il primo svolto il 28 Maggio 1971 al Houston Astrodome di Houston e il secondo il 25 Maggio 1972 al Nassau Coliseum di Uniondale, Long Island, New York.

NBA-ABA All-Star Game

L'NBA-ABA All-Star Game fu una gara di pallacanestro annualmente organizzata dalle associazioni dei giocatori di NBA e ABA, verso la fine di Maggio, dove una selezione fra i migliori giocatori delle due federazioni si scontravano in un match di esibizione in cui si giocava per un tempo con le regole vigenti in NBA (soprattutto i 24 secondi per terminare l'azione) e l'altro con le regole vigenti in ABA (con 30 secondi per terminare l'azione e il tiro da 3 punti presente all'epoca solo in ABA).^[1]

1st NBA-ABA All-Star Game

Il 28 Maggio 1971 si svolse la prima delle due partite conosciute come First NBA-ABA All-Star Game (oppure Supergame I), ovvero un All-Star Game interlega fra i migliori giocatori delle due leghe professionistiche americane ABA e NBA: la prima si svolse allo Houston Astrodome davanti a 16.364 spettatori e vide la vittoria della squadra NBA allenata da Bill Russell per 125 a 120 contro la squadra di Larry Brown, in un match molto combattuto in cui i giocatori delle rispettive leghe volevano dimostrare il loro valore. 9 dei 10 giocatori NBA che parteciparono a questa partita vennero inseriti successivamente nei 50 migliori giocatori del cinquantenario della NBA, ovvero: John Havlicek, Dave DeBusschere, Nate Thurmond, Oscar Robertson, Dave Bing, Walt Frazier, Elvin Hayes, Earl Monroe, Billy Cunningham.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar che avrebbe dovuto giocare questo incontro non disputò la partita perché si era sposato il giorno prima.

Come MVP della partita fu scelto Walt Frazier.

2nd NBA-ABA All-Star Game

Il 25 Maggio 1972 si disputò la seconda e ultima partita chiamata Second NBA-ABA All-Star Game (chiamata anche Supergame II) giocata al Nassau Coliseum davanti a 14,086 spettatori, e vide ancora la vittoria della squadra NBA (che schierava giocatori come Wilt Chamberlain e Oscar Robertson) per 106 a 104, e dove furono decisivi come nella prima gara la differenza di tiri liberi concessi alle due squadre dagli arbitri della partita provenienti dall'NBA: 70 liberi a 45 nella prima partita e 47 liberi a 32 nella seconda.^[1] ^[2] ^[3]

La partita fu trasmessa dalla TVS national broadcast, ma ad oggi sono visibili soltanto 90 minuti registrati di questa partita, mancando del tutto il quarto quarto dove tra le altre cose ci fu una famosa schiacciata del 22enne Julius Erving che, secondo alcuni presenti, lasciò di stucco veterani come Paul Silas, Archie Clark e Oscar Robertson che non avevano mai visto niente del genere.^[3]

Come MVP della partita fu scelto Bob Lanier.
