The 55th National Film Awards ke-55, yang dipersembahkan oleh Direktorat Festival Film, sebuah organisasi yang dibentuk oleh Kementerian Informasi dan Penyiaran India untuk menentukan yang terbaik dari Sinema India yang dirilis pada tahun 2007.[1][2]

Tiga komite berbeda dibuat dalam rangka menentukan berbagai entri untuk sesi film fitur, film non-fitur dan penulisan terbaik tentang sinema; yang dikepalai oleh sutradara pemenang penghargaan Nasional, Sai Paranjpye, untuk sesi film fitur dan Ashoke Viswanathan bersama dengan Namita Gokhale masing-masing untuk sesi film non-fitur dan penulisan terbaik tentang sinema.[3]

Setiap ketua mengumumkan penghargaan tersebut pada 7 September 2009[4] untuk sesi yang dipegang mereka dan acara penghargaan diadakan di Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi dengan Presiden India, Pratibha Patil memberikan penghargaan tersebut pada 21 Oktober 2009.[5][6]
