לייב קוניוחובסקי - רוזנהיים - 1947

לייב קוניוחובסקי (18 בנובמבר 1910 - 22 בפברואר 2003) היה מראיין, עורך וכותב את סיפוריהם של ניצולי שואת יהדות ליטא, מייד בסיום מלחמת העולם השנייה.

ביוגרפיה

לייב קוניוחובסקי (קאניוכאווסקי) (LEYB KONIUCHOWSKI) נולד באליטא Alytus שבליטא ב-18 בנובמבר 1910. מהנדס במקצועו, הוא התגורר בקובנה. בתקופת הכיבוש הגרמני התגורר קוניוחובסקי בגטו קובנה ועבד שם עד בריחתו. הוא מצא מקלט בבונקר בבית איכרים ובו שהה עד לשחרור בידי הצבא האדום ב-1944.

בתום המלחמה יצא קוניוחובסקי, ביוזמתו הפרטית, לתעד את גורל יהדות ליטא בזמן שואת יהודי ליטא. במשך יותר משנתיים (החל מ-1944) הוא ראיין קרוב ל-170 יהודים ב-23 מחוזות בליטא עצמה ומאוחר יותר במחנות העקורים שארית הפליטה בגרמניה, שם התגורר במשך תקופה זו. מגרמניה הוא היגר לארצות הברית, בסיוע ארגון היאס.

הוא נפטר בפלורידה ב-22 בפברואר 2003.

קוניוחובסקי אימץ את שיטת הראיון הקבוצתי כדרך היעילה ביותר לבסס את סיפור המעשה, וחלק מראיונותיו היו ראיונות קבוצתיים. הוא היה מראיין מספר יהודים מעיירה או מאזור מסוים בליטא וכותב ביידיש את הסיפורים ששמע. הוא הוסיף רשימה של שמות הקורבנות שהוזכרו, ובכך תיעד שמות של אלפי קורבנות השואה. כמו כן הוא היה מוסיף רשימה של שמות מבצעי הפשעים, מקומיים וגרמנים. בסיום התהליך הוא היה מחתים את המרואיינים על תצהיר המעיד על כך שהעובדות שהוצגו בסיפור נכונות. סיפורי הראיונות שלו מסתכמים בכמעט 1700 עמודים. קוניוחובסקי לא חשש להשתמש בתיאורים ספרותיים בזמן כתיבת הסיפורים. ההיסטוריון פיליפ פרידמן, שהעריך מאוד את עבודתו של קוניוחובסקי, תיאר את סיפורי הראיונות כרומנים[1].

ביחד עם יחידי סגולה אחרים, בעצם לקיחת עדויות של ניצולים מייד לאחר המלחמה, טרם קוניוחובסקי לתיעוד מעשי הזוועה של השואה, מפי האנשים שעברו אותה כקורבנות, הרבה לפני שהמונח שואה בכלל הוטבע, או שהייתה לניצולים ההזדמנות להפנים את המאורעות שקרו אותם ולתארם בקונטקסט ההיסטורי והגלובלי שלהם. בעבודת המחקר שלו באוניברסיטת אינדיאנה כותב ההיסטוריון ת. פילדר וואלון[2]:

"... במובן מסוים, מאשרים מסמכי קוניוחובסקי את מה שכבר ידענו על השואה של יהדות ליטא, כלומר שהשואה במחוזות ליטא נעשתה בצורה פרימיטיבית, והמרצחים (לעיתים קרובות תושבים מקומיים) ביצעו את מעשיהם בקרבת קורבנותיהם. אבל במובנים אחרים, העדויות שרשם קוניוחובסקי מספקות תובנות חדשות. שלא כמו נרטיבים דומיננטיים שהצדיקו את המוטיבציה של המשתתפים המקומיים תחת המיתוס של "בולשביזם-יהודי" או החוויה החדשה שחוו מהכיבוש והדיכוי הסובייטי, מסמכי קוניוחובסקי חושפים ליטא פרובינציאלית, שבה האנטישמיות הנוצרית העזה היא שהניעה את המשתתפים לביצוע רצח עם, תוך ליבוי ההסתה במהלך מאורעות אנטי-יהודיים מבוימים. בעוד שהרושם המוחץ שמתקבל ממסמכי קוניוחובסקי הוא של אובדן חסר גבולות, העדויות גם מעניקות דבר נוסף: זיכרון שונה בתכלית מהראיונות והדיווחים שנלקחו ממבצעי הפשעים, שהעדיפו להשכיח ולטשטש את האנושיות של קורבנותיהם..."
