Morcego orelludo común

O morcego orelludo común (Plecotus auritus) é un morcego europeo. Ten orellas moi particulares, dun gran tamaño e cun pregamento característico. É moi parecido ao orelludo gris, un mamífero moito menos común, pero ambas especies separáronse na década de 1960 polos científicos.

Un morcego orelludo común adulto ten un corpo de 4,5 a 4,8 centímetros, unha cola de 4,1 a 4,6 e as súas ás alcanzan os 3,9 cm de longo, distinguíndoo doutras especies de morcegos.

Son voadores relativamente lentos, comparándoos co resto dos morcegos.

Hábitat

Pode atoparse ao norte de Eurasia, desde Inglaterra e Francia ata o norte de Kazakhstán.

A especie prefire as covas para pousarse, pero tamén o fai nos orificios das árbores, nos edificios e en lugares similares. Cando se pousan nas árbores deben estar cerca do chan.

Caza polos bosques, durante o día, principalmente avelaíñas, que consegue de follas de árbores e das cortizas. É un dos morcegos cuxa vista é sumamente importante para capturar ás súas presas.
