Les studios de Saint-Maurice, à Saint-Maurice (Val-de-Marne) ont abrité de 1930 à 1971 le tournage de nombreux films et feuilletons télévisés.

Historique

En 1930, la Paramount Pictures rachète à la société Louis Aubert un ensemble de remises, et construit des studios équipés pour le cinéma parlant. On y tourne d'abord des plans raccords sonores pour des films tournés aux États-Unis, puis des films nouveaux destinés à l'Europe. À une époque où le doublage n'existait pas encore, le film était tourné, dans les mêmes décors, avec autant de distributions d'acteurs qu'il y avait de versions.

C'est en fréquentant assidûment les studios de Saint-Maurice — avec la permission du patron de Paramount France, Robert T. Kane — que Marcel Pagnol élabore sa doctrine du film parlant, qu'il met d'abord en œuvre dans Marius en 1931[2].

On confond parfois les studios de Saint-Maurice avec les studios de Joinville, tout proches situés à Joinville-le-Pont, mais appartenant à Pathé alors dirigé par Bernard Natan[3] (Marius sera d'ailleurs tourné aux studios de Joinville).

Avec la suprématie de la technique du doublage, la Paramount abandonne les studios de Saint-Maurice. Ils sont repris par Bernard Natan, qui avait été évincé de la direction de Pathé. À partir de 1947, les studios continuent leur activité sous le nom de Franstudio, filiale commune de Gaumont et de Pathé Société Nouvelle.

En 1971, à la suite d'un incendie, les studios disparaissent. Le terrain est désormais occupé par un ensemble d'immeubles d'habitations et de bureaux construit en 1975, le « Panoramis ».
