Niangaye

Niangaye (myös Niangay) on Nigerjoen tulvajärvi Malissa. Se sijaitsee Nigerin sisämaasuiston itäreunalla Moptin ja Timbuktun alueiden rajalla.

Järveä ruokkii Nigerjoen sivuhaaroista Bara Issasta ja Mayo Dolosta lähtevä kanava, joka jakaantuu Tiékawalin luona kahdeksi haaraksi. Toinen niistä johtaa Aougoundoujärveen ja toinen Tounkaraoun ohi Niangayeen. Niangayejärvestä lähtee Bambara Maoundén ohi kulkeva kanava Dôjärveen.[1]

Kolmionmuotoinen Niangayejärvi on lähes 40 kilometriä pitkä ja 7–13 kilometriä leveä[2]. Sen enimmäispinta-ala on 335[3] tai 400 neliökilometriä[4]. Vesimäärä on enimmillään 1 300 miljoonaa kuutiometriä ja suurin syvyys noin 6,5 metriä[1].

Järven olemassaolo riippuu Nigerjoen vuosittaisen tulvan korkeudesta[2]. Nigerin tulvien heikentymisen ohella Niangayen täyttymistä estää hiekan kasaantuminen siihen johtavaan kanavaan[4]. Niangaye kuivui kokonaan vuonna 1981[5] ja sen alapuolella sijaitsevat järvet ovat olleet kokonaan kuivia vuodesta 1972 lähtien[6]. Kuivuus on vaikeuttanut suuresti alueen maanviljelyä ja karjanhoitoa ja lopettanut kokonaan kalastuksen[7].
