آگاهی جانوران

بر پایهٔ اعلامیهٔ کمبریج دربارهٔ آگاهیِ جانوران: خودآگاهیِ ذهنیِ نزدیک به خودآگاهیِ انسانی در طوطی خاکستری آفریقایی دیده شده است.^[۱]

آگاهیِ جانوران یا هوشیاری جانوران (به انگلیسی: Animal consciousness)؛ کیفیت یا وضعیتی از خویشتن آگاهیِ درونیِ یک جانور، یا آگاه بودن از یک شیء بیرونی یا چیزی در درون خود او است است.^[۲][۳] در انسان، هوشیاری عبارت است از: توانایی احساسمندی، آگاهی، ذهنیت (تشخص‌گرایی فلسفی)، کیفیت ذهنی، توانایی آزمودن یا درک احساس، بیداری ذاتی، داشتن احساس هویت و سیستم کنترل اجرایی ذهنی است.^[۴] علی‌رغم مشکل موجود در تعریف، بسیاری از فیلسوفان بر این باورند که دربارهٔ چیستی آگاهی یک ذهنیت عمومی وجود دارد.^[۵]

پیشینه‌های فلسفی

مسئله ذهن و بدن در فلسفه رابطه بین ذهن و ماده و به ویژه رابطه بین آگاهی و مغز را بررسی می‌کند. رویکردهای مختلفی پیشنهاد شده است. اکثر آنها یا دو گرا هستند یا مونیست. دوآلیسم تمایز سفت و سختی را بین قلمرو ذهن و ماده حفظ می‌کند. مونیسم معتقد است که فقط یک نوع چیز وجود دارد و ذهن و ماده هر دو جنبه آن هستند. این مشکل توسط فیلسوفان پیش از ارسطویی مورد توجه قرار گرفت^[۶] و رنه دکارت در قرن هفدهم به آن پرداخت که به دوگانه انگاری دکارتی منجر شد. دکارت معتقد بود که فقط انسان‌ها و نه حیوانات دیگر از این ذهن غیر فیزیکی برخوردار هستند.
