Zack Edward George (born 13 July 1990) is an English elite CrossFit athlete, fitness model and television personality, known for appearing as "Steel" on the British television sports endurance game show Gladiators. In 2020, he won the UK CrossFit Open and was dubbed the "fittest man in the United Kingdom".[4][5][6]
Zack Edward George was born on 13 July 1990 in Leicester, England to a Guyanese father and an English mother.[4][7] George was overweight as a child and said that until the age of 14, "he'd have McDonald's four or five times a week and big bags of Haribo every day after school."[4][8][9]
When George was 18, he embarked on a year long personal training course at Loughborough University, and after working for a chain of gyms, he eventually opened his own.[4][10] In 2012, George began a career a CrossFit athlete, and in 2020 he won the UK CrossFit Open, leading him to become "the fittest man in the United Kingdom".[11][12] He qualified for the CrossFit Games, however lost his spot due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[4][13][14]
In January 2024, he began appearing as "Steel" on the television endurance sports game show Gladiators.[15][16][17][18] George appeared as Steel alongside fellow Gladiator, Giant (Jamie Christian-Johal) at Sheffield railway station, in which they surprised passengers by helping helping to carry their luggage on and off trains to promote the revived game show.[19]
George has a daughter, born in 2023 and a son, born in 2025 but he passed away from complications of being born at 23 weeks gestation.[20] He got married in September 2024 with Samantha Brown. Their wedding was attended by George's fellow Gladiators colleagues including Legend (Matt Morsia) and Dynamite (Emily Steel).[21][22]
