On 24 May, Coventry City announced their first pre-season friendly, away against SV Darmstadt 98.[1] Their second pre-season friendly was announced on 29 May, a home tie against SV Werder Bremen.[2] On 6 June, it was announced that Coventry City will host Everton.[3] On 14 June, it was announced that Coventry City will travel to Stevenage .[4] On 9 July, Coventry City announced that they will travel to Getafe for a game to be played behind closed doors.[5] Coventry City kicked of their pre season calendar with a previously unannounced behind closed doors game against Port Vale.[6]

As an EFL Championship side, Coventry entered the EFL Cup in the first round, where they were drawn away against Bristol City on 27 June.[11] In the second round, they were drawn at home against Oxford United on 14 August.[12][13] On 28 August Coventry City were drawn at home in the third round, against Tottenham Hotspur.[14]
