Vilém V. Zbožný (29. září 1548 – 7. února 1626) byl bavorský vévoda panující v letech 1579 až 1597. Pocházel z dynastie Wittelsbachů, byl synem vévody Albrechta V. Bavorského a jeho manželky, rakouské arcivévodkyně Anny Habsburské.

Život

Vilém byl rozhodným stoupencem protireformace. Svému bratrovi Arnoštovi zajistil roku 1583 úřad kolínského arcibiskupa, který poté zůstal v rukou Wittelsbachů po 180 let. Nekatolíci museli opustit Bavorsko. Vévoda ustanovil duchovní radu (Geistlicher Rat), které mu radila v teologických záležitostech a byla nezávislá na tajné radě. Duchovní rada dohlížela a ukázňovala katolický klér ve vévodství za pomoci pravidelných vizitací. Vydávala také certifikáty vévodským úředníkům, které zaznamenávaly jejich každoroční zpovědi a svaté přijímání. Zakládala katolické koleje s misionářskou a vzdělávací rolí, spravované relativně novými řády, především jezuity a kapucíny pro muže a uršulinkami pro ženy. Během jeho vlády také došlo k řadě poprav za honu na čarodějnice. Vilémova finanční podpora církevním projektům, zahrnujícím i misie mimo Bavorsko (např. až v Asii a Americe), velmi zatížila vévodskou pokladnu. Dne 15. října 1597 Vilém abdikoval ve prospěch svého syna Maxmiliána a zbytek svého života strávil v modlitbách a rozjímání v klášteře. Zemřel 7. února 1626 ve starém Schleißheimském zámku a byl pohřben v kostele svatého Michala v Mnichově. St. Michael's Church, Munich.
