জিল্যান্ডিয়ার ভৌগোলিক বিবরণ। অস্ট্রেলিয়া (উপরে বামে), ফিজি বা ভানুয়াতুর (উপরে মাঝে) মত নিউজিল্যান্ডের উত্তর-উত্তরপূর্ব ও দক্ষিণ-পশ্চিম দিকে বর্ধিত রৈখিক ঢালগুলোকে জিল্যান্ডিয়া মহাদেশীয় ভূখন্ডের অংশ বলে বিবেচনা করা হয় না। ^[১]

জিল্যান্ডিয়া (ইংরেজি: Zealandia, জ়ীল্যান্ডিয়া) একটি প্রায় নিমজ্জিত মহাদেশীয় ভূখন্ডাংশ (ইংরেজি: continental fragment) যা নিউজিল্যান্ড মহাদেশ বা তাসমান্টিস^[২] (ইংরেজি: Tasmantis) নামেও পরিচিত। ৬-৮.৫ কোটি বছর আগে এটি অস্ট্রেলিয়া মহাদেশ থেকে বিচ্ছিন্ন হবার পর ক্রমশ নিমজ্জিত হয়, ইতোপূর্বে ৮.৫-১৩ কোটি বছর আগে জিল্যান্ডিয়া ও অস্ট্রেলিয়া মহাদেশ অ্যান্টার্কটিকা থেকে বিচ্ছিন্ন হয়।^[৩] ২.৩ কোটি বছর আগে সম্ভবত মহাদেশটি সম্পূর্ণ নিমজ্জিত ছিল,^[৪][৫] এবং বর্তমানে মহাদেশটির সিংহভাগই (৯৩%) প্রশান্ত মহাসাগরের মাঝে নিমজ্জিত।^[৬] জিল্যান্ডিয়ার সাথে বোলোন্‌স্ ডুবো আগ্নেয়গিরি (চ্যাথাম দ্বীপপুঞ্জের দক্ষিণে) কতটা ভালভাবে সংযুক্ত তা এখনও অজ্ঞাত। বর্তমান সংজ্ঞানুযায়ী এটি পৃথিবীর বৃহত্তম মহাদেশীয় ভূখন্ডাংশ বা অণুমহাদেশ (ইংরেজি: microcontinent), যার আয়তন প্রায় ৪৯,২০,০০০ কি.মি.^২। যা দ্বিতীয় বৃহত্তম অণুমহাদেশের আয়তনের তুলনায় দ্বিগুণের বেশি এবং যা অস্ট্রেলিয়া মহাদেশের অর্ধেকের বেশি। এই সব কারণ ছাড়াও অন্যান্য ভূতাত্ত্বিক কারণে, যেমন: ভূপৃষ্ঠের পুরুত্ব ও ঘনত্ব বিচার করে, জিল্যান্ডিয়াকে অনেক সময় একটি পূর্ণ মহাদেশ হিসেবেও গণ্য করা হয়।^[৭]
