Orang Lao adalah sebuah kelompok etnik Tai yang berasal dari Asia Tenggara, mereka berbicara menggunakan bahasa Lao yang tergolong ke dalam rumpun bahasa Kra–Dai. Kelompok ini merupakan mayoritas di negara Laos, membentuk hingga 53,2% dari total populasi negara tersebut. Sebagian besar orang Lao memeluk agama Buddhisme Theravada. Kelompok ini berkerabat dekat dengan orang Tai lainnya, khususnya dengan orang Isan, yang juga berbicara dalam bahasa Lao, dan berasal dari Thailand.
