SpaceX Dragon adalah kapsul yang mampu mengangkut kargo ke orbit bumi rendah. Kapsul ini dapat mengikat segmen Stasiun Luar Angkasa Internasional non-Rusia. Dragon dikembangkan oleh SpaceX, sebuah perusahaan swasta Amerika Utara.

Dragon diluncurkan dengan roket pembawa Falcon 9, kendaraan yang diluncurkan pertama kali pada tahun 2009, yakni sebelum penerbangan terakhir Space Shuttle. Penerbangan Falcon 9 yang kedua - yang pertama sukses - akan diikuti dengan peluncuran pertama Dragon. Peluncuran pertama dilakukan di instalasi milik SpaceX, di Cape Canaveral, Florida, Amerika Serikat.

Misi COTS Demo Flight 1

Pada tanggal 8 Desember 2010, Falcon 9 membawa SpaceX Dragon yang diluncurkan dari Cape Canaveral, Florida. Pelucuran tersebut sukses dan Dragon berpisah dari Falcon 9 sekitar 10 menit pasca-peluncuran. Kemudian, kapsul kembali ke Bumi, tepatnya di Samudera Pasifik. Ini adalah kejadian pertama dalam sejarah bahwa sebuah wahana antariksa pribadi mencapai orbit dan dibawa lagi ke permukaan.[4][5]
