Publishers Weekly atau disingkat PW adalah majalah berita untuk kalangan penerbit, pustakawan, toko buku, dan agen pengarang. Majalah ini terbit tanpa terputus sejak 136 tahun yang lalu, dan memiliki slogan "Majalah Berita Internasional untuk Penerbit dan Penjual Buku". (The International News Magazine of Book Publishing and Bookselling). Terbit mingguan 51 kali per tahun, isinya sebagian besar adalah tinjauan buku.

Terbit pertama kali tahun 1872 sebagai The Publishers' Weekly (memakai apostrof), majalah ini dimaksudkan sebagai kumpulan katalog buku dari penerbit. Katalog tersebut bermanfaat bagi penjual buku untuk mengetahui judul-judul yang akan diterbitkan. Setelah beberapa lama terbit, majalah ini baru memuat artikel.

Sepanjang abad ke-20, majalah ini dipimpin dan dikembangkan oleh Frederic Gershom Melcher (1879-1963). Melcher menjabat redaktur dan wakil redaktur Publishers' Weekly sekaligus ketua dewan direktur penerbit R. R. Bowker selama lebih dari empat dekade. Lahir 12 April 1879 di Malden, Massachusetts, karier dunia penerbitan dimulainya dengan bekerja di toko buku Estes & Lauriat Bookstore, Boston, sebelum pindah ke toko buku lain di Indianapolis pada tahun 1913. Pada tahun 1918, Melcher melihat iklan lowongan di Publishers' Weekly yang sedang mencari redaktur. Surat lamaran yang ditujukannya kepada Richard Rogers Bowker ternyata diterima. Ia pindah ke Montclair, New Jersey dengan mengajak serta keluarga. Setelah Bowker meninggal dunia pada tahun 1933, Melcher menggantikan sebagai direktur utama hingga mengundurkan diri pada tahun 1959 untuk menjadi ketua dewan direktur.[1]
