Perang Sumedang–Banten (1627)


Perang Sumedang–Banten adalah pertempuran yang dipicu karena anak dari Rangga Gempol I yaitu Kartajiwa/Dipati Aria Soeriadiwangsa II mengadu kepada Banten agar mau membantu mengembalikan tahtanya.

Latar belakang

Mendengar Rangga Gempol I telah dihukum mati, Rangga Gede mengambil-alih dan mempersatukan wilayah titipan dengan wilayah miliknya, berarti Sumedang Larang kembali keluas asalnya. Salah satu putra Soeriadiwangsa (Rangga Gempol I), yang bernama Kartajiwa, menuntut kembali wilayah kekuasaan ayahnya, namun tidak ditanggapi, akhirnya ia pergi dan meminta bantuan Sultan Banten.

Intervensi Banten

Beberapa waktu kemudian, terjadilah intervensi Kesultanan Banten akibat pengaruh Rd. Kartajiwa (Soeriadiwangsa 2), putra Dipati Aria Soeriadiwangsa (Rangga Gempol I) yang ingin memperoleh kembali haknya. Beberapa wilayah Sumedang ditaklukan dan dikuasai Banten,. Karena dianggap tidak mampu menghadapi serangan Banten, akhirnya Rangga Gede dipecat oleh Sultan Agung dan dipenjarakan di Mataram.

Dibawah pimpinan Dipati Ukur

Setelah Rangga Gede dipenjara, Jabatan beliau sebagai Bupati Wadana Prayangan dicopot dan diserahkan kepada Dipati Ukur yang memindahkan pusat pemerintahan ke Daerah Ukur (Bandung sekarang) dengan misi pertama mengusir tentara Kesultanan Bamten dari wilayah Priangan. Setelah berhasil mengusir Banten misi kedua adalah menyerang Batavia.
