Patrick Wayne Swayze (pengucapan: /ˈsweɪziː/; 18 Agustus 1952 – 14 September 2009[1] adalah seorang aktor, penari, penyanyi, dan penulis lagu asal Amerika Serikat. Dia dikenal sebagai pemeran utama pria dalam film Dirty Dancing dan Ghost serta sebagai Orry Main dalam miniseri TV North and South. Dia pernah dinobatkan oleh majalah People sebagai salah satu "Sexiest Man Alive" pada tahun 1991.

Karier

Selepas dari sekolah tari di New York, Patrick bergabung dalam grup tari balet Eliot Feld Ballet. Ia pernah tampil di Broadway, pertama kali dalam Goodtime Charley. Dalam perjalanan karier selanjutnya ia menjadi pemeran utama versi musikal Grease.

Debut pertamanya di layar lebar adalah dalam film disko sepatu roda Skatetown, USA di awal 1980-an. Dalam sejumlah film berikutnya ia sama sekali lepas dari seni tari yang dikuasainya. Francis Ford Coppola melibatkannya dalam film remaja The Outsiders dengan peran sebagai abang dari salah satu tokoh utama. Peran utama yang dilakoninya adalah dalam film Red Dawn (John Millius). Selanjutnya ia mulai dipandang sebagai "simbol seks" setelah perannya dalam film-film seperti Road House, mini seri North and South, Dirty Dancing, dan selanjutnya Ghost. Dalam Dirty Dancing ia kembali melibatkan kemampuan tarinya dan dapat dianggap sebagai puncak keteenarannya. Peran antagonis dimainkannya dalam Donnie Darko, sebagai seorang pedofil. Hingga tahun 2007 ia masih aktif dalam seni peran.

Pribadi

Patrick Swayze dilahirkan dari ayah seorang penggambar rancangan dan koboi rodeo dan ibu yang berprofesi sebagai koreografer dan penari. Dari ibunyalah ia belajar menari sejak kecil. Ia masuk sekolah tari di New York.

Ia menikah dengan Lisa Niemi pada tahun 1975 dan pasangan ini dikenal sebagai pasangan yang bebas publikasi. Mereka memiliki farm di San Gabriel Mountain, California. Di sini pula Patrick Swayze meninggal dunia tanggal 14 September 2009, setelah berjuang sejak awal 2008 melawan kanker pankreas. Sebelum kematiannya, ia telah meminta dokter untuk menghentikan segala usaha medis yang memperpanjang hidupnya.
