Niels Mulder

Niels Mulder adalah seorang ahli ilmu sosial dan antropolog yang banyak meneliti mengenai masyarakat Asia Tenggara, khususnya masyarakat Jawa, Muangthai, dan Filipina.[1]

Karier

Ia merupakan lulusan Universitas Amsterdam, Belanda, kemudian mengajar di Northern Illinois University, Amerika Serikat, serta pernah pula bekerja di kantor Perserikatan Bangsa-Bangsa di Bangkok, Muangthai. Ia mulai menjadi peneliti lepas sejak tahun 1973, kemudian melakukan banyak penelitian lapangan dan menulis. Ia mendapat gelar Ph.D dari Universitas Amsterdam tahun 1975, dengan judul tesis "Kebatinan dan Hidup Sehari-hari orang Jawa" (Mysticism and Everyday Life in Contemporary Java).[1]

Ia bergabung dengan Sociology of Development Research Centre di Universitas Bielefeld, Jerman, dan memberikan kuliah musiman untuk mata pelajaran sosiologi interpretasi atas Asia Tenggara. Ia menetap sejak 2002 di daerah Gunung Banahaw di selatan Luzon, Filipina, dan melakukan penelitian analisis budaya mengenai masyarakat Filipina modern.[1][2]
