Buria adalah negeri di Kecamatan Taniwel, Kabupaten Seram Bagian Barat, Provinsi Maluku.

Sejarah

Menurut cerita orang-orang tua di sana, negeri Buria mulai dibangun pada tahun 1930-an. Disebutkan bahwa dahulunya masyarakat negeri itu masih menetap di negeri Taniwel. Diceritakan oleh tetua adat, "Orang tatua dolo tinggal di Taniwel. Akan tetapi, karena itu orang pung tanah, jadi dong pindah ka sini". Upaya awal untuk membuka negeri baru tersebut tidak mudah. Bahkan, masyarakat harus memikul pasir, batu, semen, kayu, dan bahan bangunan lain dari negeri Taniwel yang jaraknya sekitar 17 km dari negeri Buria. Masyarakat melalui jalur sungai untuk mengangkut bahan-bahan tersebut yang memang melintasi dasar jurang di tepi negeri Buria. Sungai tersebut yaitu Sapalewa yang merupakan salah satu dari tiga sungai yang menjadi bagian penting dari perkembangan sejarah dan budaya bagi masyarakat Alune dan Wemale yang dikenal dengan sebutan "Tiga Batang Air".[1]

Masyarakat

Berikut ini beberapa fam-fam (matarumah) yang secara turun-temurun mendiami negeri Buria. Fam-fam tersebut terbagi menjadi tiga soa.[2]

Selain itu, terdapat juga fam pendatang asal Tanimbar, Batlayeri yang menikah dengan perempuan asli negeri Buria.[1]

Demografi

Negeri Buria memiliki luas 39.040 hektar dan dihuni oleh 341 kepala keluarga dengan jumlah penduduk 1.618 jiwa pada tahun 2018. Masyarakat di Buria umumnya hidup dengan bercocok tanam, mereka mengandalkan lahan yang luas, mulai dari pekarangan rumah hingga hutan. Produk alami yang terkenal tersebut diantaranya kelapa, coklat, kenari, salak, pisang, lemon cina (sejenis jeruk nipis), dan durian.[1]

Penduduk asli Buria semuanya beragama Kristen Protestan. Masyarakat pergi ke gereja setiap hari Minggu di Jemaat Gereja Protestan Maluku (GPM) Peniel.[1]

Geografi

Negeri Buria terletak di kaki Gunung Tosiba, diapit oleh Gunung Patola di belakang, serta Gunung Nakaela di bibir pantai Taniwel. Buria sering disebut 'negeri di atas awan' karena letaknya yang berada di ketinggian 1.800 meter di atas permukaan laut.[1]
