拉特里尼泰的早期历史尚不清楚。根据当地官方网站的论述，拉特里尼泰创建于1658年[5]。17世纪末，拉特里尼泰附近大片土地被开发为农作物种植园，马提尼克殖民将领夏尔·德库尔邦（法语：Charles de Courbon）于1678年修筑连接拉特里尼泰和法兰西堡之间的道路；与此同时，拉特里尼泰港口贸易日趋繁忙，当地与法国本土的南特联系尤为密切[5]。1837年，拉特里尼泰被设立为市镇[6]，彼时当地的甘蔗种植面积已达1,340公顷[3]。1965年9月15日，拉特里尼泰被设立为马提尼克的一个副省会[7]。2024年11月，拉特里尼泰及马提尼克的多个市镇发生骚乱，当地多处商铺及公共设施遭到破坏[8]。

拉特里尼泰位于加勒比地区马提尼克岛东北部，距离省会法兰西堡大约28公里[2]。与拉特里尼泰接壤的市镇包括格罗莫讷、勒罗贝尔和圣玛丽[2]。

拉特里尼泰位于马提尼克岛东北部，境内以山地为主，市镇中心位于一处狭窄的山涧入海口平原地带，整体地势自海岸线向内陆抬升，全境海拔在0到285米之间[2]。卡拉韦勒半岛（法语：Presqu'île de la Caravelle）自拉特里尼泰向东北部海域伸出，其顶端距离拉特里尼泰市区的直线距离超过10公里[2]。

水文

埃皮内特河（rivière Épinette）自西向东流经拉特里尼泰镇中心并在此入海；此外拉特里尼泰附近的海湾亦以“Trinité”命名[2]。
