3ds Max（原名：3D Studio Max）是Autodesk传媒娱乐部开发的全功能的三维计算机图形软件。它运行在Win64平台上。在2007年7月，3ds Max发布了第十版。

在Windows NT出现以前，工业级的计算机图形学制作被SGI图形工作站所垄断。3D Studio Max + Windows NT组合的出现一下子降低了CG制作的门槛，首先开始运用在电脑游戏中的动画制作，后更进一步开始参与影视片的特效制作，例如《X戰警2》、《最后的武士》等。

3ds Max对CG制作产生了历史性的影响：

  • CG软件制作平台纷纷由Unix工作站向基于网络的PC平台转移
  • CG制作成本大大降低
  • CG制作由电影的高端应用进入电视游戏等低端应用

特点

  • 安裝外掛（plugins）可提供3D Studio Max所沒有的功能（比如說3D Studio Max 7.5版本以前不提供毛髮功能）以及增強原本的功能
  • 强大的角色（Character）动画制作能力
  • 可堆疊的建模步驟，使製作模型有非常大的彈性。
  • 支援Maxscript內建腳本控制語言，讓使用者有自訂工具的能力。Maxscript是內建在autodesk相關產品中的比如Autodesk VIZ、3ds Max、Plasma、GMax等軟體中的腳本語言。為3ds Max開發的第三方外掛中也多半有支援以Maxscript來控制。

历史

最初的3D Studio产品由Yost Group为DOS平台制作，由Autodesk发行。Autodesk从第二版开始买下接下来两个版本的标志和内核开发。在3D Studio Release 4后，产品转到Windows NT平台，名字改为“3D Studio MAX”。此版本还是Yost Group制作，由从Autodesk拆分的Kinetix发行。稍后，产品名称改为“3ds max”（全小写字母），为了符合位于蒙特利尔的Discreet公司的命名标准。之后Discreet被Autodesk收购，在第八版产品又重新打上Autodesk的标志，名称又变为“3ds Max”（大小写字母）。
