达拉在土耳其的位置

达拉（希臘語：Δάρας）是东罗马帝国于美索不达米亚北部的重要城池，地处与萨珊王朝边境处。由于它具有重要的战略意义，故在6世纪的罗马－波斯战争中占有突出地位，著名的的达拉战役（英语：Battle of Dara）便发生在530年发生于此地。如今土耳其马尔丁省乌古斯位于其旧址上。

历史

建城

公元502至506年，在对萨珊波斯的军事行动中罗马军队惨败，根据米蒂利尼的撒迦利亞（英语：Zacharias Rhetor）记载，罗马将军将此归咎于在该地区缺乏坚固的基地，而波斯却占有尼西比斯^[1]。

因此，505年，当斯波国王卡瓦德一世将精力转向东方时，罗马皇帝阿纳斯塔修斯一世决定在尼西比斯西侧18公里，距波斯边境仅有5公里的地方重建村庄达拉，使其成为了可以休整军队，秣兵历马，抵抗波斯人及撒拉森人的要塞^[1]。来自美索不达米亚各地的工匠迅速赶往此地。新城建立在三个山丘之上，最高处是一座堡垒，配有大粮仓、公共浴室、蓄水池等^[1]。此地随后更名为名阿纳斯塔修斯堡（希臘語：Ἀναστασιούπολις）并成为罗马美索不达米亚行省首府。

重建

据普罗科匹厄斯记载，原本的城墙因搭建匆忙而质量堪忧，当地复杂的天气情况使问题更为严峻，部分城墙甚至损坏。拜占庭皇帝查士丁尼一世只得对其进行大规模修缮，此后将其更名为新查士丁尼（Iustiniana Nova）^[2]。城墙进行了重修，内城加高了一倍，达20米（66英尺）。塔楼也加固加高，约达到35米（115英尺）高，此外还挖了一条护城河^[3]。

查士丁尼的工程师们还将挖掘了一条运河，将附近的科德斯河（英语：Cordes (river)）改道，穿城而过，保证了充足的水源供应。与此同时，通过将河流引入北方65公里（40英里）外的地下通道，城内驻军可以切断围攻城池敌军的水源，这曾多次拯救了这座城市^[4]。为避免洪水威胁（洪水曾冲毁大部分市区），还精心设计了一条拱坝（英语：Dara Dam）^[5]，这是已知最早的拱坝之一^[6]。除此之外，还为驻军建造了军营，及两座新的教堂^[7]。

此后

达拉于573至574年波斯国王霍斯劳一世在位时期被攻克，但在590年霍斯劳二世根据罗马与波斯的协定将其归还。604至605年，霍斯劳二世在围攻九个月后将其占领，但又为罗马皇帝希拉克略收复。公元639年穆斯林将其征服，此地随后失去了其军事意义，逐渐没落并被遗弃。

现代

在亚美尼亚种族大屠杀中，达拉为屠戮地点之一。根据报道，1915年春季与夏季时，蓄水池中堆满了来自迪亚巴克尔、馬爾丁、埃尔祖鲁姆等地亚美尼亚人的尸体^[8]。
