莫佩尔蒂陨石坑（Maupertuis）是月球正面位于虹湾以北崎岖的山地延伸区的一座古撞击坑残迹，约形成于早雨海世^[1]，其名称取自法国数学家、博学家、天文学家、物理学家暨大地测量学家皮埃尔·路易·莫佩尔蒂（1698年-1759年）^[2]，1935年被国际天文学联合会正式批准接受。

描述

该陨坑西侧靠近比安基尼陨石坑、西北毗邻布格陨石坑，拉·孔达明陨石坑和布利斯陨石坑(Bliss)分别位于它的北面和东北偏东。莫佩尔蒂陨石坑的北面坐落了冷海、东北蜿蜒着长约84公里的莫佩尔蒂月溪(Rimae Maupertuis)、东南濒临雨海，往南则是侏儒山脉及虹湾^[3]。该陨坑中心月面坐标为49°42′N 27°17′W / 49.7°N 27.28°W / 49.7; -27.28，直径45.49公里^[4]，深度约2.28公里^[1]。

莫佩尔蒂陨石坑几乎已被长时期的撞击所完全损毁，现仅剩一些与周边背景地形难以分辨的破碎残壁。残存的坑壁轮廓有点形似五边形，其中东南侧相对最完整，沿东北侧则切入了一道深沟。残壁最大高出周边地形1080米^[1]，内部容积约1608立方千米^[1]。坑内地表崎岖坎坷，分布着一些低矮的山脊。

该陨坑东北分布着一些统称为莫佩尔蒂月溪（Rimae Maupertuis）的沟壑，它们被认为主要形成于地质活动，要观察到这些月溪必须要使用大型望远镜且具备上佳的视力。

按惯例，最靠近莫佩尔蒂陨石坑的卫星坑在月图上以字母标注在该坑中心点的旁边。
