Peñón de Argel

Peñón de Argel, (Türkçe: Cezayir Kayası, İngilizce: Peñón of Algiers, Arapça: حصن الصخرة) 16. yüzyılda İspanya Krallığı tarafından tahkim edilmiş, Cezayir kıyılarında yer alan küçük bir adacıktı.

Tarih

1510'da İspanyollar, Cezayir'in kuzeyindeki Peñón adlı küçük bir adaya yerleştiler. Sālim et-Tūmī'yi (Selim-bin-Teumi) İspanya ile bir anlaşma yapmaya, yani İspanyol varlığını kabul etmeye ve haraç ödemeye zorladılar.[1][2] Adacıkta surlar inşa edildi ve 200 kişilik bir garnizon kuruldu.[2] Salim, Aragonlu Ferdinand'a itaat yemini etmek için İspanya'ya gitmek zorunda kaldı.[2]

Adacık 1529'da Hayreddin Paşa tarafından Cezayir'in fethi (1529) sırasında ele geçirildi. Barbaros surları yıktı ve bölgedeki İspanyol varlığına son verdi. İspanyol varlığının ortadan kaldırılması ve surların yıkılmasının ardından yine Barbaros Hayreddin Paşa'nın emriyle sur kalıntıları denize doldurulmuş ve Cezayir kentiyle kara bağlantısı sağlanmıştır. Böylece Penon de Alger'in ada statüsü ortadan kalkmıştır. Cezayir'e kara bağlantısı sağlanan eski ada, kentin limanı olarak kullanılmaya başlanmıştır. Liman hali günümüzde de devam etmektedir.
