Fransız sürşajlı Suriye posta pulları ve onun 1938 basımı; bu 4-kuruş değerli pul 1939 yılında bazen kullanıldı.

I. Dünya Savaşı'ndan sonra İskenderun sancağı, özel bir statü altında Fransız Suriye Mandası'nın bir parçası haline geldi. Fakat Türkiye onun Türkler, Sünni Araplar ve çok sayıdaki Nusayriler arasında etnik bir alana dönüştürülmesini istiyordu. Temmuz 1939 yılında Fransa, İskenderun Sancağı'nı Avrupa'da çatışmaların yükseldiği zamanda Türkiye'nin dostluğunu sağlamak için onu Türkiye'ye terk etti. O zamandan beri Suriye bölgede hak iddia etmektedir. Doğrudan doğruya bir halk oylaması yapıldı ve İskenderun halkı Fransız Suriye Mandası ile birleşmek yerine özgür Türk devletini istedi.
