Sahil Güvenlik Komutanlığı bünyesinde bulunan sığ sularda meydana gelebilecek deniz kazalarında arama kurtarma görevi icra etmek amacıyla kurulmuştur.[1][2] Deniz kazası, doğal afetler, su altında delil tespiti yapma, boğulma vakaları gibi olaylara müdahale ederler. Yaklaşık 8 haftalık temel kurbağa adam kursunu tamamlayan personel oryantasyon eğitimi sonucunda timlere kabul edilir.[3]
